What is the  yoga ?

Yoga is not studied, nor is it taught, it is practiced.”

Andrei Ram OM

Most of us are used to seeking fulfilment outside ourselves. We live in a world that conditions us to believe that external achievements can bring us what we desire. However, our experiences show us again and again that nothing that comes from outside can completely satisfy the deep desire for that ‘something more’.

The word Yoga itself means ‘union’: union of the individual consciousness or soul with the Universal Consciousness or Spirit. Although many people think that Yoga consists only of physical exercises (the asanas or postures, which have gained popularity in recent decades) these are in fact only the most superficial aspect of this profound science which reveals the infinite potential of the human mind and soul.

Yoga is a simple process of reversing the flow of energy and consciousness, usually directed outwards. This allows the mind to become a dynamic centre of perception capable of apprehending Truth through direct experience without depending on faltering senses. Yoga is the practice of a set of postures, breathing exercises and purification that aims to bring about physical and mental well-being. This ancient art of living, as explained in the texts, reveals itself as an initiatory path that transcends physical discipline.

The first references took  yoga can be found in the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, written about 200 years before our era. In this work we understand the basis of the yoga philosophy and its possible application in all spheres of our life.

“When I practice, I am a philosopher.
When I teach, I am a scientist.
When I demonstrate, I am an artist.”

BKS Iyengar

Yoga does not just change the way we see things,
ilit transforms the person who sees.”
