What is the  Pilates  ?

“When all your muscles are properly developed,
you will, as a matter of course, perform your work
with minimum effort and maximum pleasure.”

Joseph Pilates

It is a program of over 500  exercises. In private or group Pilates classes, students learn with precision, several   combinations of exercises that help develop strength, flexibility, coordination and a specific breathing pattern.  This facilitates the strengthening of the body’s core thus avoiding the collapse of the joints.

Pilates works on all spatial planes and in conjunction with the abdomen and the lumbar region. Most of the exercises are performed with the muscles tightening or lengthening , which contrasts muscle contractions (retractions) due to bad postural work habits acquired over time , psychological and emotional traumas , and a bad perception of our body .

Pilates is also indicated in post-operative physical therapy. As an example, after knee ligament surgery, a slipped disc for a shoulder fracture, as it improves muscle strength and joint mobility. The program is personalized with exercises adapted to  your  own needs, taking into account any health issues.

By coordinating the movements with the breathing, working on concentration and precision, you will achieve fluid movements and  be able to obtain a new body and, above all, regain self-awareness to achieve true well-being : “the balance between body and mind.”

Joseph Pilates , the founder of the method, also adapted all these exercises on specialised equipment that he invented and designed himself (reformer, cadillac or wall unit, ladder barrel, wunda chair, spine corrector).

The six fundamental principles

Concentration
Inner concentration until perfect control of the movements.
The Centre
Learn to work using the Central Line of the body. All movement is initiated by the Energy Centre located just below the navel, the “powerhouse”.

Control
It aims to bring all parts of the mind and body together in the exercise of the movement.

Breathing
Deep and complete breaths extensively increase efficiency.
Precision
Each movement has a specific purpose and precision of detail encourages optimal muscle strengthening sequences.
Fluidity of Movement
Each movement is carried out with fluidity and harmony, without stress or tension.

Pilates encourages improvement in overall posture, movement functionality and relaxation of the mind.
It encourages the use of thought for control and perfect and precise implementation of movement.

Our classes are small groups with a maximum of 8 students per class, for an optimal fit and support. The Pilates instructor will be able to listen to you more easily, which will improve your progress in learning the method with spotting, too.

The acquirement and enjoyment of physical well-being
mental calm and spiritual peace
are priceless to their possessors
